Ok, let's be honest. The cover of this book made me want to read it, especially knowing it was a dark romance. Thank god for white wedding dresses and bloody hearts.
I loved this book. At 30% in, I thought I knew what was going to happen, and then the author said nope, you're mistaken, and an unsuspecting plot twist occurred. And then she did it again to me at 85% or so.
The characters are wonderfully created. I love reading a book where I feel like the characters and I would fit in the same friend circle, and I felt this while reading The Rooms we Hide, all be it a dark, twisted, very protective friends circle. I also love the author's use of music and movies in the book to set the scene and give you more insight into the characters.

The right amount of spice paired with a crazy amount of suspense, I could NOT put this down. From the dedication (which is hilarious!) to a content warning for triggers and a Jen inspired playlist - this is a very well thought out and skillfully executed breakout work for JS Mercier.

This book was incredible and was the perfect mix of spice, mystery, and thrill to devour poolside. With lots of Dexter vibes, I was instantly hooked to join Jen, Brandon, and Evan on their wild adventure.
The Rooms We Hide (perfect title, btw) primarily follows Jen has she deals with processing her father’s somewhat mysterious death, while two ghosts from her past show up unexpectedly. Admittedly, that is only the beginning as this book twists and turns and then leaves you with a great cliffhanger. Needless to say, I am beyond excited for the next book in this duet.

This is the type of book that you devour quickly because you just can't wait to see what happens next. There's plenty of surprises to keep things interesting and a bit of *spice*. I loved the main character and the mystery that was running throughout the book. The side characters are also intriguing. Overall, this was a really entertaining read that I recommend to fans of Dexter, anyone into horror comedies (like the movie Freaky).
